The Zeiss Standard Speed lenses are less known than the renowned Ziess Super Speed lenses, however they were still a workhorse of the industry and are making a resurgence. Although these lenses are slower at T2.1 across the range, they perform well and have a good amount of contrast while sill offering a ‘vintage’ look on digital sensors. Initially the 135mm was rehoused to add a longer focal length to the B-Speed and Super Speed sets. Following on from this, TLS are to release the 100mm and 40mm Standard Speeds during H1 of 2024. The rest of the set are to then follow during the remainder of 2024 and into early 2025.
While the lenses are still in the R&D phase, there are limited details on the specifications. However, the aim is to keep them all to a 95mm front and matching iris and focus gear positions, which will hopefully match the B-Speed and Super Speed spacings too. With such a comprehensive range of focal lengths in the original series, this will be a popular project for anyone looking to work on S35 cameras with reliable, vintage optics.
