Buying A Lens?

Buying A Lens?

Buying a new or used lens?

We know that film lenses can be a very expensive purchase and the process of buying a lens or a set of lenses, new or used can be a very difficult decision. Are the lenses the right lenses for you? Are the lenses exactly as they have been advertised?

So many questions! Can we take the stress away for you?

TLS can provide you with a lens evaluation service. TLS will assess the lens or lenses for you and provide you with a professional review.

How does the evaluation process work?

TLS will act as an intermediatory. This means that you will need to get in touch with the seller and let the seller know that you would like to have your lenses evaluated by us. The seller will ship the lenses to the TLS office and a TLS lens specialist will complete a lens evaluation assessment. This assessment document will then be sent to you and the seller.

We will release the lenses once you, the buyer and the seller have come to a decision.

The assessment.

Whilst conducting the assessment we focus on the following areas of the lens-

  • Front element condition
  • Rear element condition
  • General optical condition
  • Signs of any fungus/haze/contamination
  • External condition
  • Iris condition and operation
  • Image at infinity (throughout the range if a zoom lens)
  • Image on projection
  • Mechanical movements
  • Signs of wear and tear

Cost of evaluation

The cost of the evaluation service will vary dependant on the type of lens and how many lenses that need evaluating.
