Responding to growing demand to bridge the gap between the 55mm and 85mm focal lengths, TLS is proud to introduce the Canon 70mm FD-X lens, featuring an impressive T-stop of T1.3.

To create the 70mm FD-X, TLS utilizes the Canon 85mm FD f/1.2 (either the SSC or FD L version) combined with a custom-modified 0.8x wide-angle adaptor. While the adaptor itself is an off-the-shelf component, TLS works directly with the manufacturer to modify its coatings for a more accurate match to the original Canon FD series. These adjustments enhance magenta reflections, aligning the optical characteristics more closely with the later FD and K35 lenses.

Customers need only supply the 85mm FD f/1.2 base lens, and TLS will carry out the conversion to a 70mm T1.3 FD-X. When projected, the lens exhibits a slightly greater fall-off toward the edges compared to the 85mm FD, though user feedback indicates this is barely perceptible in real-world use. Early reports confirm that the 70mm FD-X blends seamlessly with the rest of the FD-X series, maintaining consistent optical performance and aesthetic character.

The lens features a 110mm front diameter, with focus and iris positions matched precisely to the rest of the FD-X range — ensuring smooth integration into existing sets.
